Fly Fishing: Loon creek offers some of the best fly fishing in the state of Idaho. Because of the low traffic on the river the fish are hungry and eager, making for a true fisherman's paradise. Loon creek is full of Rainbow Trout and Cutthroats, as well as Browns, and vary in size and all fishing is catch and release on Loon Creek. We have guests that return every year just for the fishing and have made comments that they have had the "best fishing experience of their lives" with us or have "caught the most fish ever on Loon Creek" or "caught the largest trout on Loon Creek". Lessons can be given, and guides can be provided for an extra cost.
Beyond our amazing stream fishing, we do have a private lake on the ranch that also provides a great fishing experience. For the more adventurous, a guided hike is offered to Mystery Lake which is stocked with California Golden Trout. There is something for everyone!
It is advisable that our guests bring their own fishing equipment. Should our guests want the full guide service of all equipment and full day of personal guiding, we bring in a partnering outfitter. This would need to be set up in advance. Special discounted rates are available for fisherman, please inquire.
Transportation: You can drive directly to the ranch or charter a plane to our landing strip (2600').

Lodging: The Diamond D Ranch is nestled in a valley in the Frank Church Wilderness and is surrounded by the Salmon River mountains. Many of our guests enjoy cracking a window at night and listening to the sounds of the bubbling stream and the wind in the trees from the comfort of their cabin. The Diamond D Ranch offers modern "mountain rustic" themed accommodations including three two-bedroom cabins (each holding six people), one large four-bedroom cabin which will sleep ten, two suites (Honeymoon and Ranch suites), each holding a single or couple comfortably. All cabins and suites have a private bathroom and porch or deck with views of golden sunrises, rippling aspen, fields of wildflowers, and horses galloping across the meadows, and star filled skies. The main lodge has five lodge rooms. Part of the main Lodge was built in the very early 1900's, which was the original Coleman homestead house. In 1916, what is our present living room, was added onto the lodge as a post office, dance hall, saloon, and restaurant. The Demorest family first came onto the ranch in 1951 with plans of developing the ranch as a guest ranch knowing there was lots of hard work to do. In 1961 Tom Demorest continued to add to the lodge, by developing a kitchen area, bathroom facilities, and dining room (which expanded the first floor of the lodge by 50%). Now the lodge serves as the main gathering area for dining, games, and fireside conversation.
Kids' Program: Being in the wild west is a very exciting adventure for children. Our staff tries to make everyday fun and memorable for the children by offering western lore of the area, a variety of crafts, nature walks, gold panning and other adventures. Some of our staff members have even been known to strap on a head lamp and take the kids in search of Night Crawlers in the moonlight. Children six years and older may participate in the above activities (under recreation). For children under six, there are supervised games, swimming, pony rides, etc. For the very young, three and under, there is baby-sitting available.
Food/Dining: A variety of taste-tempting meals are served family style in the lodge dining room or at outdoor poolside barbecues. Breakfasts range from hot oatmeal, fresh fruit selections, yogurts, special breads, to French toast, pancakes, eggs and bacon, biscuits & gravy, waffles, and beautiful quiches. A few examples of lunches are homemade soups, Mediterranean cuisine, tacos, French dips and other gourmet sandwiches and sides. Dinners range from Italian dinners of spaghetti, lasagna, eggplant or veal parmesan to prime rib, ham dinner, turkey dinner, Lemon chicken, seafood linguini, surf and turf, and much more!!! Breads and deserts are baked fresh daily and are irresistible. ***WE DO SELL A NICE SELECTION OF WINE AND BEER*** but hard liquor is not available. You are welcome to bring your own if you wish. There are mini-fridges in each of the cabins and suites. With advance notice we are very happy to cater to special diets, such as gluten free, diabetic, vegetarian, vegan, etc.
